Massage Therapy Styles

Swedish Massage

swedish massage is the modality that first comes to mind when people think of massage.   It is a classic style of therapeutic massage that combines long, flowing strokes, petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), compression & stretching .  Research has shown many benefits of swedish massage including a significant decrease in the stress hormone cortisol.  It is also helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders.  The same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions using myofascial release & trigger point therapy to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones as an extension of their own hands. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly.

Pregnancy/Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of the mother to be as her body goes through dramatic changes.  Our therapists are trained to address specific pregnancy discomforts including back and hip pain, sciatica, swelling in hands and feet &, headaches.   Prenatal massage is performed by positioning the expectant woman on her side propped with pillows.

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy (AOBT)

AOBT is known as "The deepest, most luxurious form of barefoot massage on the planet"  Utilizing parallel bars on the ceiling for balance and leverage, the therapist uses body weight and gravity to apply deep pressure directed through the bare feet to the thick layers of muscles on the back.  AOBT is a smooth & flowing,  technique performed on lubricated skin and provides intensely deep, and amazingly relaxing therapeutic massage experience. Our clients receive anything from moderate pressure to very deep work without the pain and discomfort that often accompanies the use of a therapist’s thumbs or elbows. It is also safe and effective on almost all areas where “hands on” techniques are used.
